Our He Taonga Inquiry
Our first term inquiry was He Taonga. Our end in mind was to develop an appreciation and understanding of what makes our school iconic in relation to the people, places and cultures around us. Discover, inspire and create a masterpiece based around our community, school values and Maori culture.
We wanted the children to:
- Promote the creativity - plan, design and collaborate as a team to create a “value” panel.
- Develop the mindset of pushing the boundaries/trying something new.
- Learn about the Maori visual arts, symbols and meanings used in Maori art works.
- Record and share their learning journey either through a journal, digital journal or blog.
- Develop a basic understanding of our school icon throughout the values to incorporate our school values and culture into the art piece.
